BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE

The Church

Kniveton: "An illustration, drawn for Dr. Lawrence Butler of the Leeds University Archaeological Studies Centre, gives an impression of the Abbey buildings as they were c.1250.

Kniveton: "A view of the Abbey c.1500 showing the addition of the tower from within the north transcept. It is this tower which still stands today".

The above photograph showing the Church Tower (foreground), The Pigeon Tower, The Abbot's Lodgings and the Chapter House (white roof just above the Church Tower) has been kindly supplied by Manx National Heritage. The picture was taken (I think) in 1999 when the Abbey was being prepared for opening to the public.
